Create A Full Flash Menu for a website with sound
 Flash Level = Intermediate
http://www.flashvault.net/img/200942413_swf.swf
Continuing the Best Of The Web tutorials, here's a great one for intemediate/beginner flash users and shows how to create a full Flash menu for your websites with sound and with relative ease. There are lots of packages available to purchase on the web to create flash menus but generally are restricted to using preset templates, whereas if you learn the coding behind the menu for flash it will help you no end of times in the future and gives you greater freedom and creativity.

I've created a new skin for Mozilla Firefox called 24 Carat Fox. You can view and install the skin for your Firefox browser at:
http://www.getpersonas.com/persona/4334#
You will need to install the Personas add-on. I'll be creating an official Magickal Kingdom skin soon as well. Hope you like it

Creating the dreaded 'roadmap' in Adobe Illustrator - The Easy Way March 03, 09 02:49:01 AM by Gavin
|

Illustrator Level = Beginner/Intermediate
Continuing the 'Best-Of-The-Web' series, this tutorial helps any designer who has had to do the 'dreaded roadmap' for a client, whether it's on the web or for print work. Like it or not, the roadmap will be asked for eventually by a client who wants to show exactly where their business is on the map on their advertisement. I've lost count of the amount of times I've had to redraw maps for clients over the last ten years.
You could just copy and paste a selection from google maps or sites such as streetmap but there are quite a few problems with this method, 1. it's not exactly legal as most maps are copyrighted, and 2. If you're doing print work, a low res 72dpi image really is not going to cut it when it goes to print.
So, fear not as this brilliant tutorial from spoongraphics shows you a great and easy way to do the road maps using Adobe Illustrator, and without the need to draw both sides of the line like I used to do when I first started lol!

Getting Your Music Signed March 02, 09 02:52:14 AM by Gavin
|
The first and most obvious point is if your tunes aren't up to current standards then no label will sign them. So it's very important not to hassle producers and labels just because you've completed your first track. If a label has several average tunes submitted to them by one artist over a period of time then they are unlikely to listen to your material again. So don't blow any opportunity until you are sure that your music is marketable. This is where friends, dj's and clubs come in handy. Listening to your music on a club sound system will give you a very good indication of quality, particularly if you can reference it against your favourite producers music. Getting opinions from dj's and friends will also help.
Also why not post them here on Magickal Kingdom? Where we can hear your tracks and give you an unbiased opinion and advice?
The two most important things to remember are: are my tunes marketable and is the production up to a high standard? There is no point giving a hard tune to a label, which specialises in liquid. If a label can't sell your music then they won't be interested - no matter how good your tune is. Secondly these days it is very important to have a high production standard. How does your tune sound next to your favourite producers tracks? If it pales in comparison then it's time to go back to the drawing board.
Start off by giving your tracks to dj's that are not so established, they are most likely to give you hone
